Type-approved and reliable HELA PEX pipe fittings are suitable for all domestic water, heating, and frost protection systems. In Finland, only type-approved fittings may be installed in property domestic water (drinking water) systems. Type approval ensures the product’s performance and suitability for drinking water systems.
For PN6 (heating fittings) and for fittings above 63 mm PN10 (domestic water), type approval is not required in Finland. However, HELA heating fittings and domestic water fittings larger than 63 mm are manufactured and tested by VTT according to the same requirements as type-approved fittings.
The fittings can be used with all type-approved PEX pipes in Finland whose outer diameter and wall thickness are compatible with the fittings. They are suitable for all applications and conditions where PEX pipes are used. In addition to water, the fittings are suitable for glycol mixtures used in frost protection systems. For other liquids, suitability must be verified separately.
In addition to PEX pipes, the fittings are also suitable for PN10 PE pipes (so-called blue stripe pipes). The wall thickness of the PE pipe must be considered when selecting the fitting.
Each fitting is marked with the pipe outer diameter, wall thickness, and pressure class (PN6 or PN10) to prevent installation errors. Since pipe wall thickness varies depending on the application, selecting the correct fitting is important.
Fittings from 15–32 mm are nut-tightened fittings with a fixed stem. Fittings from 25–160 mm are clamp-type fittings tightened with a bolted connection. Clamp-type fittings are very easy to install thanks to the practical spreading screw, which keeps the clamp open during installation.
The structural strength of HELA fittings (pressure, tensile strength, etc.) is higher than that of the pipe in all sizes, meaning the pipe properties determine the application. HELA fittings are always a safe choice for all applications.
All HELA PEX fittings have external threads according to ISO 7-1 (taper thread). The thread is compatible with ISO 228 (parallel thread) and ISO 7 standard internal threads.
